Strengthening Education and Workplace Linkages: The E-Learning Challenge

Abstract

Globalization and technology have changed the role and function of today’s educational institutions. Educators need to understand the changes and adapt to them in order to provide students with the needed skills for today’s workplace. New demands and competencies as well as the prevalence of cross-border education have challenged the quality and relevance of education. One way to improve the relevance of education is through linkage with the workplace. E-learning provides opportunities to strengthen such linkage by using workplaces as learning contexts, creating social networks, and participating in communities of practice.
