Abstract

Continued gainful employment is a highly desirable goal for a university graduate. For working students to land jobs in their universities on graduation, is a package with not only the attraction of continuity but other benefits that deserve analysis and understanding. In this single case study, the factors that promote feelings of job security and satisfaction among staff who were working students in various parts of a private university in Cebu City, Philippines, are explored. Herzberg’s motivator-hygiene theory is used as the framework for analyzing the data from the study. Codes, categories and themes are identified from the transcripts of the individual interviews and focus group discussions. In general, the tangible and intangible conditions made the participants stay in the university for ten years or more. The research findings and recommendations serve as the basis for a plan of the Human Resource Department of the university.
