Which Program to be Elaborated in Order to Teach Character to Rwandan Children After Genocide

Abstract

The legacy of the civil war and genocide in Rwanda includes many orphans and thousands of children who have experienced untold horrors. These children are the future leaders of the country, but many are homeless and living in extreme poverty. The trauma they have experienced has caused many behavioral and emotional problems, as well as a moral vacuum, with children who aren’’t sure what is right or wrong. Schools need to take a leading role in educating the characters of these children before they turn into adult leaders with no moral values. Parents and community organizations can help, but the effort must be deep and thorough, not just an “add-on” approach.
